Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 239 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 239 new cases: 71 cases were reported on November 27th, 86 cases were reported on November 28th, and 82 cases were reported on November 29th.

The Health Unit says 97 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 58 cases are community acquired, 28 cases are outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 56 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 21,503 on Friday November 26th to 21,742 on Monday November 29th.

They say 498 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 77 since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 333,044 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+2,819 since Friday)
    • 316,994 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+582 since Friday)
    • 22,143 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+2,745 since Friday)
  • A total of 672,181 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+6,146 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 76.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.7 per cent since Friday)
    • 80.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
  • 72.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
    • 76.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated
  • 5.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.6 per cent since Friday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 20,773 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 162 resolved cases since Friday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 471.

The Health Unit lists 18 hospitalizations today: 12 people in acute care (increase of 4), and 6 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
