Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 115 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 115 new cases: 39 were reported on November 13th, 45 were reported on November 14th, and 31 were reported on November 15th.

The Health Unit says 51 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 29 cases are community acquired, 10 cases are outbreak-related, 2 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 23 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 20,848 on Friday November 12th 20,963 on Monday November 15th.

They say 292 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 40 since Friday).

Variants of Concern

  • 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
  • 3,211 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 46)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 327,552 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+498 since Friday)
    • 14,170 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-430 since Friday)
    • 313,382 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+928 since Friday)
    • 9,492 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+1,262 since Friday)
  • A total of 650,426 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,688 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 74.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
    • 86.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 71.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
    • 82.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.3 per cent since Friday)
  • 2.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.3 per cent since Friday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 20,205 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 75 resolved cases since Friday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 466.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 15 hospitalizations today: 11 people in acute care (decrease of 3), and 4 people in the ICU (increase of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
