The successful Buy a Meal, Give a Meal campaign by the Serbian Centre returns this year.

In partnership with the Downtown Mission & the Salvation Army, the program supports these local agencies when it’s most needed, starting in January, after the annual rise in holiday donations has passed.

All meals purchased through the program between now and December 31st will be matched with a meal donated to the Downtown Mission & Salvation Army every week in the new year.

For every 200 meals purchased or donated, they will be able to provide the Downtown Mission & Salvation Army dinner for one day a week. Last year it saw 3,200 meals collected.

“It’s so wonderful to have the support of the Serbian Centre and all who participate in the Buy a Meal, Give a Meal Program! We at The Downtown Mission appreciate each and every meal donated as costs continue to rise, so donations of delicious meals from the Serbian Centre will go a long way. They will not only provide a wonderful meal to individuals who are hungry who come to the Mission for a meal but will also help the Mission reduce our purchases of food next year. We are so thankful to be a part of a wonderful community like Windsor, which is so compassionate and generous,” said Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin, Interim Executive Director of the Downtown Mission.

There are two ways to get involved:

  • When businesses or individuals purchase a 1/4 chicken dinner with pasta, garden salad, roasted potatoes, and a roll, for just $20 (plus HST, for takeout any Friday in November and December), the Serbian Centre will match their purchase with a meal donation on their behalf.
  • Alternatively, meals can also be donated for just $10 (plus HST, minimum 10)
