Hello time traveller!!
This article is 1303 days old.
The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 117 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit no longer reports case counts and statistics on weekends and now provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 117 new cases: 30 cases were reported on September 25th, 47 cases were reported on September 26th, and 40 cases were reported on September 27th.

The Health Unit says 64 are close contacts of confirmed cases, 29 are community acquired, 9 are outbreak related, 1 is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 14 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 19,473 on Friday September 24th to 19,590 on Monday September 27th.

They say 307 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 5 since Friday).

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 4,168 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 55 since Friday).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)

  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
