Hello time traveller!!
This article is 960 days old.
The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 304 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the long weekend. The Health Unit no longer reports case counts and statistics on weekends and now provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 304 new cases, 100 were reported on September 4th, 83 were reported on September 5th, 50 were reported on September 6th, and 71 were reported on September 7th.

The Health Unit says 72 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 34 cases are community acquired, 14 cases are outbreak related, 8 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 176 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 18,363 on Friday September 3rd to 18,667 on Tuesday September 7th.

They say 616 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 97 since Friday).

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 3,359 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 159 since Friday).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)

  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
