45 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 45 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 19 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 6 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 20 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 19,025 on Monday September 13th to 19,070 on Tuesday September 14th.

They say 455 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 60 since yesterday).

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 3,700 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 5 since yesterday).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
  • 1,697 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 90 since yesterday)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 308,370 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+395 since yesterday)
    • 26,562 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-64 since yesterday) *
    • 281,808 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+459 since yesterday)
  • A total of 590,178 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+854 since yesterday)

* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses

Vaccination Percentages

  • 70.40 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.09 per cent since yesterday)
    • 81.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 64.33 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 74.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

The Health Unit lists 18,167 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 103 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced two additional deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 448. The Health Unit says a man in his 70s from the community and a man in his 80s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 20 hospitalizations today: 14 people in acute care (decrease of 2), and 6 people in the ICU (increase of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
