Walkerville Funeral Home Closes

After serving the Walkerville area for decades, the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre has closed their doors and the property is for sale.

Located on Wyandotte Street East and Devonshire Road, the funeral home has served the area since 1958 when Walter Douglas Kelly purchased the old Little family residence and opened what would become Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre.

Kelly passed away suddenly in 1962 and the funeral home was left to his wife, Miriam who ran the funeral home together with and Jack Garswood until his retirement.

In 1978, Miriam passed away and left the funeral home to her daughter, Barbara Ann.  After nearly two decades—with her health failing and having no heirs who were capable of operating the business—Barbara sold it in 1997. In recent years it has been run by Dignity Memorial.

Dignity says they closed the location to better serve the community at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Ouellette Avenue.

They say that if you made final plans at Walter D. Kelly, your arrangements will be honored at Anderson’s.
