45 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 45 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 13 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 17 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 17,106 on Thursday August 12th to 17,151 on Friday August 13th.
They say 193 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 28).
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 2,154 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 14).
Variant case strains:
- 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
- 156 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 14)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.
They say 81 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 3).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 292,819 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+366 since yesterday)
- 30,253 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-294 since yesterday) *
- 262,566 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+660 since yesterday)
- A total of 555,385 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,026 since yesterday)
* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses
Vaccination Percentages
- 66.85 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 77.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 59.94 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
- 69.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated
