The mass vaccination clinic at the WFCU Centre is closing at the end of the day Saturday after over 73,000 doses administered.
Opening on March 1st, the clinic was among the first in the province to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to residents over the age of 80.
In addition to the WFCU, the Moy Medical Center, a private practice, opened its doors to the public to support the vaccine effort and has administered approximately 21,000 doses locally. This site closed on Friday, July 30th and has now resumed its regular operations.
“Without partners like the City of Windsor and the Moy Medical Center donating their space and dedicating their staff to supporting our vaccination effort early on, we would not have been able to reach the number of people that we had in a timely way. Getting key populations a first dose early was a key reason our third wave of COVID-19 was not as devastating as in other regions of the province,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
Vaccine efforts are being focused at the large site in the former Sears at Devonshire Mall. The Amherstburg and Leamington locations also remain open.
For those looking to receive the vaccine, available sites and other information are provided at http://www.wevax.ca.
