Heavy rain flooded certain areas of Windsor-Essex on Friday.

Preliminary estimates show as much as 2.5 inches (63mm) fell in certain areas between West Windsor, Downtown Windsor, Walkerville, Riverside, and the Tecumseh/Lakeshore border. Other areas still received significant rainfall.

The area is under a flood watch.

windsoriteDOTca readers reported flooded lawns, basements and other parts of their properties. Across the region, heavy rains caused streets to flood.

Several vehicles broke down while trying to navigate flooded roads. City of Windsor crews are out and dealing with areas of concern but drivers are urged to stay off roadways until the rain subsides and the system has a chance to clear the water away.

The City of Windsor is asking residents who see or are experiencing flooding from today’s flooding to contact 311 via the Windsor 311 mobile app or through 311 online.

“This is a significant rainfall that is causing issues for homes and on roadways,” says City Engineer Mark Winterton. “And we know contacting 311 might not be top priority for homeowners right at the moment but by using the app at their convenience we’ll be taking the numbers and locations of those flooded and we’ll add that information to our growing data base to help plan for a future where flooding becomes less and less of an issue”.
