4 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 4 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 2 cases are community acquired, and 2 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases.

Total overall cases increased from 16,879 on Thursday July 29th to 16,883 on Friday July 30th, and 25 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 2,002 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 4).

Variant case strains:

• 1,822 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7) (increase of 1)
• 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
• 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
• 17 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 3)
• 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.

They say 3 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

• 287,393 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+534 since yesterday)
  • 37,039 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-888 since yesterday) *
  • 250,354 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+1,563 since yesterday)
• A total of 537,747 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,956 since yesterday)

* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses

Vaccination Percentages

• 65.61 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
  • 75.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
• 57.15 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
  • 66.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated

Notes: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021. As of July 28th, the Health Unit is now reporting daily percentages of 12+ (the eligible population) rather than 18+.

That’s an increase of 3 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 435.

The Health Unit lists 0 hospitalizations of people from Windsor-Essex today.
