3 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 3 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 1 case is a close contact of a confirmed case and 2 cases are community acquired.

Total overall cases increased from 16,869 on Monday July 26th to 16,872 on Tuesday July 27th, and 25 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 1,995 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date.

Variant case strains:

  • 1,821 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
  • 11 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.

They say 3 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 286,161 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+395 since yesterday)
    • 40,311 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-1,374 since yesterday) *
    • 245,850 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+1,169 since yesterday)
  • A total of 532,011 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,564 since yesterday)

* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses

Vaccination Percentages

  • 65.33 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
    • 77.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (adults) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
  • 56.13 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
    • 67.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (adults) are fully vaccinated

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

That’s an increase of 2 resolved cases since yesterday.
