The Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair recognized the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit with the Community Humanitarian Award as well as Dr. Wajid Ahmed with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award this past Thursday.

“These two awards recognize groups and individuals in the community for exceptional humanitarian work either locally or globally,” said Club President Chuck Roy.

Roy says the members of the Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair are honoured to recognize Dr. Wajid Ahmed and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit as they have gone above and beyond in keeping our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic over the last fifteen months.

“The community has benefited greatly from their daily press briefings, data collection and analysis, keeping the web site current with important updates, setting up and overseeing multiple vaccination sites, and being able to pivot quickly in response to provincial direction, scientific information, and research.”

The club notes they have done all this while they have also continued all of the responsibilities that were in place prior to the pandemic, dealing with the ongoing opioid crisis, routine restaurant inspections, beach inspections, dental screening, handling public complaints, and managing flu season as well as issues relating to all other communicable diseases.

“Our club has been so inspired by the work of Dr. Wajid Ahmed and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit,” Roy says. “The two award recipients exemplify the Rotary motto of service above self.”
