Maintenance and rehabilitation of the Union Water Supply System Ruthven Water Treatment Plant will take longer than planned.
This work started in January 2021 and was scheduled for completion by the end of May 2021, but due to supply chain issues associated with COVID-19, this work has been prolonged for an additional 4-6 weeks.
As such, the Ruthven Water Treatment Plant will be operating at reduced capacity until the completion of this work at the end of June 2021.
Officials say that the summer-like weather we have experienced this spring has resulted in an unprecedented demand for water from the drinking water system.
With this high water demand, the UWSS would like to request residents and businesses minimize their daytime water usage, particularly between the peak hours of noon and 6:00 pm and avoid excessive water uses.
“We would also like to acknowledge local Greenhouse Vegetable Growers and a number of OGVG members who have agreed to work with the UWSS to put forth an effort to effectively reduce and offset their water consumption during peak times,” a news release notes.
