Windsor Regional Hospital has confirmed the former Sears store at Devonshire Mall is set to become a vaccination centre next month.

The hospital says the new vaccination centre will be called the Devonshire Mall Vaccination Centre and will open on Monday, June 21st.

Officials say the location will be available soon for booking online at WEVax.ca and that vaccinations will remain available by appointment only.

The new site was selected to allow both Windsor Hall and the St. Clair Sportsplex to return to their educational and athletic purposes in time for the fall 2021 semester.

Windsor Hall, located at Pitt Street West and Ferry Street, will be vacated starting June 19th, the hospital says. All patients with vaccination appointments at Windsor Hall between today and June 18th should continue to attend Windsor Hall as scheduled. All patients who may have pre-booked second dose appointments at Windsor Hall between July 11th and July 21st will be rebooked at the same time and date for the Devonshire Mall Vaccination Centre. These individuals will be contacted directly to confirm that they are aware of the new location.

The hospital says the St. Clair College Sportsplex Vaccination Centre located at the St. Clair College Campus will be vacated and returned to the college on July 22nd. They say all patients with vaccination appointments at the Sportsplex between today and July 21st should continue to come to the Sportsplex as scheduled.

The hospital says Devonshire Mall is allowing the use of the facility for the sum of $1.

“This is yet another great example of the dedication of our local partners in continuing to ensure the health and safety of our community as we move forward in vaccinating our region against the COVID-19 virus,” the hospital said in a news release thanking mall general manager Chris Savard.

All other vaccination centres in Windsor Essex will remain open until further notice.
