New flexible in-road traffic signs are coming to the Town of Tecumseh on a trial basis.
The signs will be placed in the centre of the road between opposing traffic lanes at various locations as a traffic-calming measure. These signs create a narrowing effect on the lane or roadway which can give motorists the perception of the need to slow down.
The signs are designed to flex upon impact in the event inattentive drivers or wider vehicles make contact with them.
“We are always open to new and innovative ways to calm traffic in Town,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “One of the things we hear from residents is the need for traffic calming measures in Town. These signs will help with this concern and remind drivers to slow down.”
Installation of these in-road signs is anticipated to begin at the end of May. The locations will be selected based on traffic analysis conducted by Public Works & Environmental Services.
They will be removed prior to winter months for snowplow operations.
