Health Canada is recalling hand sanitizer produced by Hiram Walker & Sons Limited / JP Wiser’s Distillery.
The agency says the sanitizer is being recalled from the market because it does not meet Health Canada requirements.
Health Canada says the sanitizer contains an unacceptable ingredient called ethyl acetate which they say may cause dry skin, leading to irritation or cracking when the sanitizer is used frequently.
The sanitizer is labelled with the Drug Information Number / Natural Product Number 80098173 and the affected lot number is 200324-133735.
Health Canada says you should stop using the identified product and consult your health care professional if you have used the product and have health concerns.
Health Canada is also recalling seven other sanitizers — unrelated to the Hiram Walker sanitizer — and previously recalled 151 other sanitizers as part of an earlier phase of recalls.
The City of Windsor distributed Hiram Walker sanitizer at a number of drive-thru pick up points in 2020 but it’s unclear at this time if the distributed sanitizer is from the affected lot number. windsoriteDOTca has reached out to the City of Windsor for comment.
