66 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Sunday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 66 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Sunday, bringing the local total to 14,803.
New Cases
Cases increased from 14,737 on Saturday April 17th to 14,803 on Sunday April 18th and 472 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 28 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 12 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 26 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
The Health Unit says 458 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 1 identified since yesterday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:
- 118,676 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+1,049 since yesterday)
- 105,988 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+1,017 since yesterday)
- 12,688 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+32 since yesterday)
- A total of 131,364 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,081 since yesterday)
How To Get A Vaccine
There are two vaccination programs at this time:
- Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
- Those eligible include:
- Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
- Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
- Healthcare workers in the highest priority, very high priority or high priority groups
- People with the highest risk, and high risk health conditions

- Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)
- Those eligible include:
- Pharmacy Vaccinations (AstraZeneca)
- Adults aged 55 and older can make an appointment at a participating pharmacy.

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 13,922 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 34 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 409.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 20 hospitalizations today: 16 people in acute care (increase of 2 today), and 4 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
