47 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 47 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 15,292.
New Cases
Cases increased from 15,245 on Monday April 26th to 15,292 on Tuesday April 27th and 452 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 25 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 5 cases are community acquired, 1 case is outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 16 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
The Health Unit says 806 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 20 identified since yesterday). They say 728 of the total variant cases to date have been the U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7), and 2 of the total variant cases to date have been the South African Variant (B.1.351).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 141,544 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+3,174 since yesterday)
- 127,905 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+3,119 since yesterday)
- 13,639 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+55 since yesterday)
- A total of 155,183 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,229 since yesterday)
The Health Unit says Windsor-Essex’s total population in 2021 is approximately 438,001. As of today, 32.31 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
How To Get A Vaccine
There are two vaccination programs at this time:
- Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
- Those eligible include:
- Adults aged 40 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
- Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
- Healthcare workers in the “highest priority”, “very high priority” or “high priority” groups
- People with the “highest risk”, and “high risk” health conditions
- Pregnant individuals
- Adults aged 40+ with “at risk” health conditions
- Licenced childcare workers

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 14,426 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 76 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 414. They say a man in his 50s from the community passed away.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 20 hospitalizations today: 15 people in acute care (increase of 3 today), and 5 people in the ICU (increase of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
