45 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death In Windsor Essex On Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 45 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 14,349.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,304 on Friday April 9th to 14,349 on Saturday April 10th and 426 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak related, 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 34 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 235 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 20  identified since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 101,899 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+2,971 since yesterday)
    • 89,455 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+2,961 since yesterday)
    • 12,444 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+10 since yesterday)
  • A total of 114,343 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,981 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says Windsor Essex has hit a milestone of 100,000 people vaccinated as of the end of the day Friday.

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs at this time:

  • Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
    • Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
    • Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
    • Vaccination booking is available at this link: https://wait.crowdhandler.com/wechuvaccination
    • Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)
  • Pharmacy Vaccinations (AstraZeneca)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,516 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 38 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 407. They say a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 13 hospitalizations today: 8 people in acute care (decrease of 3 today), and 5 people in the ICU (increase of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
