Windsor Regional Hospital announced Friday they’ll be closing one of their two COVID-19 Assessment Centres due to a low number of people seeking tests.

Officials say the Met Campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre will close after its final scheduled tests today, Friday March 12th.

The hospital says those scheduled for tests at the Met location are being contacted to reschedule for the Ouellette location.

They say the number of people seeking tests has been “well below” 400 per day at both locations combined, whereas the Ouellette site can handle as many as 500 people per day. Total daily numbers have not surpassed 500 tests since January 18th, according to the hospital.

Officials say they’ve periodically adjusted the hours of their assessment centres since the start of the pandemic to reflect  demand trends. They say that’s included expanding hours to accommodate same-day appointments and also decreasing hours at times to preserve human resources.

Despite closing the Met location, officials say they expect same-day and next-day appointments will remain available.

Hours at the Ouellette Campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre will remain unchanged from 8:00am to 7:00pm, seven days a week.

Officials say the closure of the Met location will allow the hospital to adjust staffing to support the vaccination rollout process.
