A new digital passport has launched to showcase shopping and dining experiences in Windsor’s little Italy.

Tourism Windsor Essex launched their Nonna’s Shopping List program on Tuesday. The program is designed to showcase the culture of Windsor’s Via Italia and organizers say the program includes VIP savings, prizes and “Nonna-approved” selections at businesses.

“Windsor Essex has some of the best food in all of Canada,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk about the new program. “Via Italia has long been a cherished culinary and shopping destination of our region.”

Officials say the digital passport is easy to use and requires no downloads to access. Once users have checked-in on their smartphone, they can take a self-guided tour of the district while stopping at 16 businesses along the way.

Users who make a purchase at 8 different participating locations will have the chance to receive a limited edition Nonna’s Shopping List apron & wooden spoon as official keepsakes, and be entered in to win a $500 Via Italia Staycation.

Tourism Windsor Essex also held an unveiling of a mural at the Erie Street community garden. The mural’s themes depict the Italian flag, a village, a vinyard, and a portrait of a nonna and her granddaughter. The mural was created by local artist DERKZ.
