Adults aged 70 or older can now book a vaccine appointment at any of the area’s four targeted vaccination clinics using the Health Unit’s booking system.

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette announced the newly eligible age range during Friday morning’s Health Unit daily briefing.

Until today, only those 75 and older were eligible to book appointments.

“Last Friday we announced that we’d be moving to residents 75 years of age and older to receive the vaccine,” she said. “Today we are happy to announce that residents 70 years of age and older are eligible to receive the vaccine through one of our targeted vaccination clinics.”

Marentette says 91.3 per cent of people 80 and up have been vaccinated locally, and 33.8 per cent of those 75 to 79 have been vaccinated. She says the Health Unit is booking approximately 1,900 people a day. According to their estimates, she says by April 1st the Health Unit will have given everyone 75 and up the opportunity to book.

Marentette says there are about 22,000 people in the 70 to 74 age range but 22.4 per cent of that age group have already been vaccinated through programs such as the pharmacy pilot.

Residents can visit and select their preferred location to book a vaccination appointment, or you can call 226-773-2200.
