30 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 30 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 13,564.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,534 on Friday March 19th to 13,564 on Saturday March 20th and 280 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak related, 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 7 cases are community acquired, and 8 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

• 37,487 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+4,095 since yesterday)
• 11,935 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+14 since yesterday)
• A total of 61,537 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,303 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says they they will be closing down the booking system for those over 80 on Saturday March 20th at 4pm and will be switching to a new system for those over 75 next week.

She says anyone 80 and over who has pre-registered will still be called to book an appointment.

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

• People 80 years of age and older

  • Or you can call 519-251-4072.
  • The Health Unit says you should pre-register using their system and not the province’s system. They say if you try to register on the province’s system, you will be re-directed to the local system.
  • The Health Unit says they will be closing this system down on Saturday March 20th at 4pm and will be switching to a new system for those over 75 next week.
• People aged 60 to 64 (AstraZeneca)
  • If you’re aged 60-64, you can get a vaccine at a participating pharmacy.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,883 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 29 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 401.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 21 hospitalizations today: 16 people in acute care (1 less today), and 5 people in the ICU (1 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
