1 New Death, 24 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 24 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 13,224.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,200 on Monday March 8th to 13,224 on Tuesday March 9th and 254 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community-acquired, and 12 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 9,603 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+1,050 since yesterday)
  • 11,645 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+30 since yesterday)
  • A total of 32,893 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,110 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says the Health Unit will soon be reaching out those vaccinated at the mass clinic last week who had appointments booked for their second vaccine dose. She says the second dose appointments are being cancelled and rebooked for four months time due to new federal and provincial direction about the timing of second doses.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,576 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 31 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 394. They say a man in his 80s from the community has passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 39 hospitalizations today: 27 people in acute care (2 less today), and 12 people in the ICU (2 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
