1 Additional Death, 19 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 19 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 13,066.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,047 on Wednesday March 3rd to 13,066 on Thursday March 4th and 264 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 2 cases are outbreak-related, 5 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community-acquired, and 10 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 6,175 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+435 since yesterday)
  • 11,592 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+4 since yesterday)
  • A total of 29,359 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+443 since yesterday)

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says Windsor-Essex has been chosen to be part of a provincial pilot program that will see the distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine from local pharmacies. He says the pilot program is expected to begin next week and more details are coming soon.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,413 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 16 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There has been one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 389. The Health Unit says a man in his 70’s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 44 hospitalizations today: 35 people in acute care (3 less today), and 9 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
