6 New Deaths, 39 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 39 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday, bringing the local total to 12,233.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 12,194 on Tuesday February 2nd to 12,233 on Wednesday February 3rd and 452 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 10 cases are outbreak-related, 11 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are community acquired, and 15 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 11,449 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 77 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced six new deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 332.

They say:

  • 5 are from the community
    • A man in his 60s
    • A woman in her 70s
    • Three men in their 80s
  • 1 from a long-term care home
    • A woman in her 80s

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 68 hospitalizations today: 59 people in acute care (1 less today), and 9 people in the ICU (3 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

Second Round Of Vaccinations

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says the second round of vaccinations for residents, staff and essential caregivers began Friday at long-term care and retirement homes and eight homes have now been visited.

She says the Health Unit is planning to immunize three homes today.
