Vaccination Update

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says the Health Unit will continue to distribute second doses of the Moderna vaccine to residents, staff and essential caregivers at long-term care and retirement homes this week.

She says the Health Unit plans to complete second doses at these facilities by Thursday February 18th.

Marentette says 376 residents are however awaiting their first doses, the Health Unit is “working on getting this accomplished” and there is currently enough vaccine supply to accomplish this. The Health Unit said previously some residents were ineligible during the first round due to factors such as acute illness or testing positive for COVID-19 at the time.

She says the Health Unit has also asked Windsor Regional Hospital to provide first doses to the remaining staff and essential caregivers from these facilities.

“We know that there are more than 1,700 people who would like the vaccine but have not received their first dose at this time,” she said, referring to staff and essential caregivers at the facilities.
