8 New Deaths, 439 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex From Friday / Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 439 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County since Thursday December 31st (the Health Unit did not have a daily update on Friday), bringing the local total to 8,085.

The Health Unit gave a breakdown for the past two days (due to no update on Friday):

• 257 cases are reported from December 31st, 2020
• 182 cases are reported from January 1st, 2021

Cases increased from 7,646 on Thursday December 31st to 8,085 on Saturday January 2nd and 2,280 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 60 cases are outbreak-related, 4 cases are community acquired, 1 case is a close contact of a confirmed case, and 374 cases are still being investigated.

They say 5,660 people locally have recovered (an increase of 84 recoveries).

There have been eight new deaths from COVID-19 since the Health Unit’s last update on Thursday, bringing the local death toll to 145. The Health Unit says:

• 5 are from the community
  • A woman in her 50s
  • A  woman in her 60s
  • A man in his 70s
  • Two women in their 80s
• 3 are from long-term care
  • Two women in their 70s
  • A woman in her 80s

Hospitalizations

As of Saturday, the Health Unit lists 103 hospitalizations: 85 people in acute care, and 18 people in the ICU (increase of 3) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
