7 New Deaths, 199 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 199 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 9,445.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 9,246 on Friday January 8th to 9,445 on Saturday January 9th and 2,504 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 32 cases are outbreak-related, 20 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 case is community acquired, and 143 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Recoveries

The Health Unit lists 6,732 total recoveries.

That’s an increase of 178 recoveries today.

Deaths

There have been seven new deaths from COVID-19 as of today bringing the local death toll to 209.

The Health Unit says:

• 4 are from long-term care and retirement homes
  • Two men and a woman in their 80’s
  • A woman in her 90’s
• 3 are from the community
  • A woman in her 70’s
  • A man and a woman in their 80’s

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 93 hospitalizations today: 78 people in acute care, and 15 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
