6 New Deaths, 215 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Sunday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 215 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Sunday, bringing the local total to 8,300.

Cases increased from 8,085 on Saturday January 2nd to 8,300 on Sunday January 3rd and 2,416 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 18 cases are outbreak-related, 3 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and 192 cases are still being investigated.

They say 5,733 people locally have recovered (an increase of 73 recoveries).

There have been six new deaths from COVID-19 as of Sunday bringing the local death toll to 151. The Health Unit says:

• 5 are from long-term care
  • Two women and one man in their 80s
  • Two men in their 90s
• 1 is from the community
  • A man in his 70s

Hospitalizations

On Sunday, the Health Unit lists 103 hospitalizations: 85 people in acute care, and 18 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
