16 New Deaths, 202 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 202 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Monday, bringing the local total to 8,502.

Cases increased from 8,300 on Sunday January 3rd to 8,502 on Monday January 4th and 2,514 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 48 cases are outbreak-related, 12 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are community acquired, and 139 cases are still being investigated.

They say 5,809 people locally have recovered (an increase of 76 recoveries).

There have been sixteen new deaths from COVID-19 as of Monday bringing the local death toll to 167. The Health Unit says:

  • 14 deaths are from long-term care
    • 13 residents
      • 2 women and 2 men in their 70s
      • 3 women and 1 man in their 80s
      • 4 women and 1 man in their 90s
    • 1 staff
      • 1 woman in her 60s
  • 2 deaths are from the community
    • 1 man and 1 woman in their 70s

Hospitalizations

On Monday, the Health Unit lists 103 hospitalizations: 88 people in acute care (3 new today), and 15 people in the ICU (3 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

  • Banwell Gardens Care Centre (Windsor) has 48 resident cases and 30 staff cases (2 new staff cases)

  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 71 resident cases and 27 staff cases (12 new resident cases)
