16 New Deaths, 175 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 175 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 9,990.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 9,815 on Monday January 11th to 9,990 on Tuesday January 12th and 2,661 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 19 cases are outbreak-related, 9 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are community acquired, and 144 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Recoveries

The Health Unit lists 7,103 total recoveries.

That’s an increase of 226 recoveries today.

Deaths

There have been sixteen new deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 226.

The Health Unit says:

  • 14 are from long-term care and retirement homes
    • Six women and one man in their 80’s
    • Five women and two men in their 90’s
  • 2 are from the community
    • A woman in her 80’s
    • A woman in her 90’s

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 101 hospitalizations today: 82 people in acute care , and 19 (2 more today) people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

Retirement Home Vaccinations

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says the Health Unit’s nurses vaccinated two retirement homes on Monday and four other retirement homes completed their own vaccinations.

She says nurses will be vaccinating two retirement homes today and three retirement homes will conduct their own vaccinations today.

Marentette says if all vaccinations go as planned today, thirteen of the twenty-four local retirement homes should be vaccinated. She says the remaining homes should be complete by this time next week.
