Two local co-workers have teamed up for the second year in a row to host a weekend-long can drive at Reaume Chevrolet Buick GMC in LaSalle, starting Friday, December 4th at 6pm.

Paul Atherton and Greg Martin will don their Santa suits and brave the cold for a round-the-clock can drive event, hoping to once again fill a cube van with items to benefit those less fortunate.

The two friends and co-workers came up with the idea last year after hearing about the need in their local community. This year, the COVID-19 crisis has created even more of a shortage of donations, leaving a portion of the population in a vulnerable position.

“Not everyone understands that there is such a need in our backyard. At our facility, we help over 67 families including over 35 children currently and we’ve seen usage increase greatly” said Deb Wilkinson from the LaSalle Foodbank, “we are really in need of hygiene and household products to get them the essentials”.

Over the weekend they will be ready to safely accept all non-perishable food and hygiene items and load up their waiting cube van. The goal is to fill the shelves of the local LaSalle Foodbank and help lift the spirits of those families in need and affected by hardship this holiday season. Any overflow of donations will be handed out to Street Help of Windsor.

“All you have to do is pull up to 500 Front Road and pop your trunk and we’ll do the rest,” said Martin. “Last year we had a young man drive up at 3:00am and drop off one can, that meant a lot that he gave what he could when he could.”
