57 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death In Windsor Essex As Of Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 57 new cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the local total to 4,111.

Cases increased from 4,054 on Monday December 7th to 4,111 on Tuesday December 8th and 491 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 11 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are local healthcare workers, 1 case is an agri-farm worker, and the origins of 43 cases are still under investigation.

They say 3,536 people locally have recovered (an increase of 66 recoveries today).

There has been one new death due to COVID-19 as of Tuesday bringing the local death toll to 84. Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says a woman in her 70s from the community passed away.

As of Tuesday, the Health Unit lists 37 hospitalizations: 27 people in acute care (an increase of 1 today), and 10 people in the ICU (an increase of 2 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Nineteen hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, six long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 4 resident cases and 0 staff cases
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Chartwell Royal Oak Residence (Kingsville) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Leamington Mennonite (Leamington) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Riverside Place (Windsor) has 17 resident cases and 3 staff cases

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, one agri-farm outbreak has ended, the outbreak at a place of worship has ended, and the following workplaces remain under outbreak:

  • 2 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville

School Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, there is one new school outbreak and three schools remain under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School (new today – details to be released later today)
  • Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus
  • W.J. Langlois Catholic Elementary School
  • Frank W. Begley Public School
