The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 213 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County as of Tuesday, bringing the local total to 6,073.

Cases increased from 5,861 on Monday December 21st to 6,073 on Tuesday December 22nd and 1,186 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 37 cases are outbreak related, 12 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are healthcare workers working in Michigan, 1 case is community acquired, and 161 cases are still being investigated.

They say 4,785 people locally have recovered (an increase of 163 recoveries today).

As of Tuesday, the Health Unit is reporting four new deaths from COVID-19, bringing the local death toll to 102.

The Health Unit says all four deaths were people from the community (not long-term care or retirement homes):

• 3 men in their 70’s passed away
• 1 man in his 80’s passed away

Hospitalizations

As of Tuesday, the Health Unit lists 83 hospitalizations: 70 people in acute care, and 13 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
