3 New Deaths, 250 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 250 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 6,323.

Cases increased from 6,073 on Tuesday December 22nd to 6,323 on Wednesday December 23rd and 1,305 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Wednesday’s 250 new cases is another new record number of daily cases for Windsor-Essex. The previous record was 243 new cases on December 18th.

The Health Unit says 32 cases are outbreak related, 13 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 6 cases are community acquired, and 199 cases are still being investigated.

They say 4,913 people locally have recovered (an increase of 128 recoveries today).

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit is reporting three new deaths from COVID-19, bringing the local death toll to 105:

  • a man in his 40s from community
  • a woman in her 70s from community
  • a woman in her 90s from a long-term care home

Hospitalizations

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit lists 76 hospitalizations: 60 people in acute care (decrease of 10 today), and 16 people in the ICU (increase of 3 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

  • Banwell Gardens Care Centre (Windsor) has 31 resident cases and 9 staff cases (24 new resident cases, 6 new staff cases)
  • The Shoreview at Riverside (Windsor) has 4 resident cases and 5 staff cases
  • La Chaumiere Retirement (Puce) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 34 resident cases and 19 staff case (2 new resident cases, 6 new staff cases)
  • Berkshire Care Center (Windsor) has 45 resident cases and 38 staff cases (3 new resident cases, 1 new staff case)
  • The Village at St. Clair (Windsor) has 97 resident cases and 67 staff cases (17 new staff cases)
  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 2 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 41 resident cases and 9 staff cases
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 4 staff cases (1 new staff case)
