136 New Cases Of COVID-19, 3 New Outbreaks In Windsor Essex As Of Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 136 new cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the local total to 4,899.

Cases increased from 4,763 on Monday December 14th to 4,899 on Tuesday December 15th and 837 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 35 cases are related to outbreaks, 2 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community acquired, and the remainder of the cases are still under investigation.

They say 3,971 people locally have recovered (an increase of 78 recoveries today).

There have no additional deaths from COVID-19 as of Tuesday and the local death toll stands at 91.

As of Tuesday, the Health Unit lists 53 hospitalizations: 43 people in acute care (an increase of 1 today), and 10 people in the ICU (a decrease of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Thirty-three hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital, and less than five hospitalizations are listed at Erie Shores hospital in Leamington.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, seven long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 6 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Berkshire Care Center (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 3 staff cases (2 new staff cases)
  • The Village at St. Clair (Windsor) has 43 resident cases and 20 staff case (39 new resident cases, 19 new staff cases)
  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 2 resident cases and 2 staff case (1 new resident case)
  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 28 resident cases and 1 staff case (7 new resident cases)
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 2 staff cases

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, the following workplaces remain under outbreak:

  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington (1 new today)
  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Kingsville (1 new today)
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh

School Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, two schools remain under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School
  • Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus

Community Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, the following are under outbreak:

  • Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario (new today)
  • Victoria Manor
  • Manor Lodge House

Hospital Outbreaks

As of Tuesday, there is one hospital outbreak:

  • Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare

The Health Unit says detailed data (case sources, outbreak numbers, etc) may not be up to date at this time due to delays with case and contact management and the high volume of recent cases.
