104 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death In Windsor Essex As Of Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 104 new cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, bringing the local total to 4,342.

Cases increased from 4,238 on Wednesday December 9th to 4,342 on Thursday December 10th and 610 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 16 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are local healthcare workers, 1 case is community acquired, 14 cases are agri-farm workers, and the origins of 70 cases are still being investigated.

They say 3,646 people locally have recovered (an increase of 49 recoveries today).

There has been one new death due to COVID-19 as of Thursday bringing the local death toll to 86. The Health Unit says a woman in her 70s from the community passed away.

As of Thursday, the Health Unit lists 32 hospitalizations: 25 people in acute care (an increase of 1 today), and 7 people in the ICU (an decrease of 2 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Twenty hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Thursday, there is one new outbreak and six long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 1 resident case and 1 staff case (new outbreak today)
  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 11 resident cases and 1 staff cases (2 new resident cases today, 1 new staff case today)
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Chartwell Royal Oak Residence (Kingsville) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Leamington Mennonite (Leamington) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Riverside Place (Windsor) has 17 resident cases and 4 staff cases

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Thursday, the following workplaces are under outbreak:

  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington
  • 2 outbreaks at agri-farms in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh

School Outbreaks

As of Thursday, two schools remain under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School
  • Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus

Community Outbreaks

As of Thursday, the following are under outbreak:

  • Victoria Manor
  • Manor Lodge House (new)

Hospital Outbreaks

As of Thursday, there are two hospital outbreaks:

  • Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare
  • Windsor Regional Hospital

New Community Cluster

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex announced a new community cluster the Health Unit has uncovered. He says the cluster involves 32 cases linked to local youth sports at Central Park Athletics.

“The majority of the cases were between the ages of ten and nineteen,” he said.

Dr. Ahmed says seven schools were impacted by students who attended during their infectious periods. He says students played at recreation facilities including six arenas, two private recreation facilities, and two golf clubs, resulting in 20 cases.
