1 Death, 51 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Sunday

Last updated: Sunday December 13th, 7:16pm: The Health Unit rescinded outbreaks at two facilities after this story was posted.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 51 new cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, bringing the local total to 4,568.

Cases increased from 4,517 on Saturday December 12th to 4,568 on Sunday December 13th and 641 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 6 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and 43 cases are still being investigated.

They say 3,836 people locally have recovered (an increase of 15 recoveries today).

There has been one additional death from COVID-19 as of Sunday bringing the local death toll to 91. The Health Unit says a woman in her 70’s from the community passed away on Saturday.

As of Sunday, the Health Unit lists 43 hospitalizations: 34 people in acute care, and 9 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Thirty-one hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Sunday, two outbreaks have ended, and seven long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 6 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Berkshire Care Center (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 1 staff case
  • The Village at St. Clair (Windsor) has 4 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 1 resident case and 2 staff case
  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 21 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 1 resident cases and 2 staff cases

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Sunday, the following workplaces remain under outbreak:

  • 2 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington
  • 2 outbreaks at agri-farms in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh

School Outbreaks

As of Sunday, two schools remain under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School
  • Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus
