Windsor Regional Hospital Among Province’s Top Performing Cancer Programs

The Windsor Regional Cancer Centre has been recognized for being among the top performing and most improved cancer programs in the province, by Ontario Health in the annual Performance Award recognition’s.

The hospital was awarded top performer in tobacco use screening for new cancer patients with 99.57% of patients receiving screening.

“Smoking cessation can have a profound impact on the recovery of patients and we are proud of the work being done to help our patients quit,” said Monica Staley Liang, Regional Vice President of the Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program.

The hospital was also recognized as the most improved when it comes to getting “priority 2” patients treated within target wait times.

In 2019/2020, 96% of patients in this group received treatment within the target wait time. This exceeds provincial targets and is an improvement of 12.94% over the previous year.

Windsor Regional Hospital was also recognized for meeting provincial improvement targets in several key areas including percentage of patients receiving systemic treatment seen within14 days of referral, percentage of tobacco users that accepted a referral to tobacco use cessation counselling and percentage of priority 3 patients that received a CT biopsy within a target time.
