Environment Canada is warning that a significant winter storm is expected Monday into Wednesday.
They say that a low-pressure system is expected to track just east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario on Monday bringing rain, snow, and strong winds throughout Southern Ontario. This low-pressure system is expected to remain over Southern Ontario until late Wednesday.
Precipitation is expected to begin Monday morning mainly as rain, however, rain may be mixed with snow at times. Rain is then expected to change to snow Monday afternoon or evening with snow continuing into Wednesday.
Snowfall amounts near 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) are possible by Tuesday morning. Additional snowfall amounts for Tuesday are fairly uncertain at this time, however amounts near 15 cm (6 inches) are possible.
Strong northwesterly winds gusting near 70 km/h are also possible Monday night and Tuesday near Lake Huron.
Difficult travel conditions are expected as snow-covered and icy roads are possible, particularly Monday night into Tuesday. Several transitions between rain and snow are possible throughout the storm.
