The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for Leamington.

Officials say that flooding has started along Point Pelee Drive (County Road 33) between Sturgeon Creek and Point Pelee National Park.

Gale force wind conditions out of the southwest have caused significant wave activity which has caused wave overtopping and spray. The combination of high lake levels and these waves has caused water to begin pooling in low lying areas on private lands and within the Point Pelee Drive right-of-way.

Water has also begun pooling on private lands along Robson Road which is starting to make its way onto the roadway with significant waves overtopping breakwall structures along the shoreline.

Forecasts indicate that gale force winds are expected to continue predominantly out of the southwest for the remainder of the day and evening. This advisory will remain in effect until Monday at 12pm.
