Five Tasty Ways to Celebrate National Sandwich Day

Whether your go-to sammie is a much-loved Ham & Swiss, a classic BLT or the never fail PB&J, it’s time to celebrate National Sandwich Day!

There is no shortage of combinations of bread, meat, cheese and toppings to create some of the most loved and efficient fare that can be eaten anywhere – at your desk, in the car or even as you walk (for those multi-taskers out there!)  Some are stacked high making eating them a feat unto itself, while others are a bit fancy, crusts cut off and dolloped with aioli.

Cruise over to your favourite sandwich shop and make it your way to celebrate all the delicious things that happen between two pieces of bread

The Carvery

Amongst a line up of signature sammies, The Carvery serves up something special on the daily including this Spicy Schnitzel Sandwich which tops a piece of crispy, breaded pork with some spicy capicollo, slaw, siracha aioli and fresh tomatoes.

Toasty’s

Make it mozzarella and toss in some tomatoes and basil to your standard grilled cheese sandwich.  Fresh and delicious, make sure to try the Caprese from Toasty’s line-up of inventive twists on a classic!

Smashed Apple

Try it topless & in bite-sized pieces! This open-faced sammie turned hor d’oeuvre by Smashed Apple uses their very own spice mix and locally sourced ‘shrooms to make these gourmet mushroom toasts to please the palette.

If you are an outside-the-box thinker, why not think beyond the bread and venture into something wrapped, like a taco or shawarma, to celebrate the day!

Eddy’s Mediterranean Bistro

Home to some of the best Middle Eastern food, go one-handed with a shawarma – wrapping up all kinds of flavour for those on the go! Choose chicken or beef and make sure to go with all the toppings – garlic is good for you!

El Diablo

If avocado can be served on toast, who says tacos can’t be enjoyed as part of sandwich day?  Double wrapped in corn tortillas and full of fresh flavours & fixings El Diablo serves up some  Mexican street-fare as a great way to think beyond the bread.

A well-crafted sandwich is more than just bread, meat and cheese.  So, if you are a lover of the Lobster Roll, the Po’boy or even the Dagwood – or if your idea of sandwich extends further to tacos and wraps – make sure to spend National Sandwich Day (November 3rd) visiting our local restaurants or order #TakeoutTuesday to celebrate your favourite local hand-held meal on the comfort of your couch.
