Summer can get expensive but having a good time as you soak up these last few weeks of summer doesn’t need to break the bank! Check out our list of fun, local things you can do for low to no cost.  It’s the summer of the STAYcation but that’s not reason to simply stay home! Check out just a few of the ideas below right here in Windsor Essex and start your bucket list of things to do, places to explore, things to see and more!

Explore our towns and districts! There are plenty of places to just roam and explore so grab your family and start wandering! Check out historic neighbourhoods, plenty of outdoor art, fields of fresh produce and bright sunny beaches.  Or relax on one of the extended outdoor “euro-style” patio’s in Via Italia, Downtown Windsor, Amherstburg, and Kingsville.  There may just be a short time left in summer vacation but there is still plenty to do!

Splash Your Day Away

Where: LaSalle Splash Pad

Why You Should Go: Cool off without bringing your wallet along at one of Windsor Essex sandy beaches or outdoor splash pads this summer.  Make a tour of it and visit splash pads across the county or spend the day at Seacliff Park or Sandpoint Beach.

Hit the Trails

Where: Cypher Systems Greenway 

Price: Free

What You Need to Know:  If you are looking for the perfect place to get outside and explore, this 50km nature trail comprises the southernmost link of the Trans Canada Trail and travels through Essex County.  So lace up those shoes, pack a water bottle and hit the trails on foot or by bike.

Have a “Scentsational” Experience

Where: Serenity Lavender Farm

Why You Should Go: Visit Canada’s most southern lavender farm & shop nestled on the Lake Erie shore in Colchester, Ontario.  Escape the city and take in the beauty of the fields.

Picnic at The Park

Where: King’s Navy Yard Park – Amherstburg Waterfront

Why You Should Go: Pack a picnic or your own or stop by one of our roadside stands packed with plenty of local goodies and dine al fresco by the waterfront in beautiful King’s Navy Yard Park.   If you’ve got just a few dollars to spare, consider takeout from one of the local restaurants or markets, sit back and just enjoy!
