5 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 5 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 2,561. They say 2,407 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 2,556 on Tuesday September 8th to 2,561 on Wednesday September 9th and 72 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.

The Health Unit says 3 of the cases are community acquired and 2 of the cases are close contacts of confirmed cases.

There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday and the local death toll stands at 75.

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit says 7 people are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. One of the hospitalizations is listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

New Beginnings retirement home in Leamington remains under outbreak with 7 staff cases and 21 resident cases, and Rosewood Erie Glen in Leamington remains under outbreak with 1 staff case (this was listed as 1 resident case in the morning and was corrected to 1 staff case later today).

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit says the following workplace is under outbreak (no changes compared to yesterday):

  • 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Tecumseh)

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
