The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 2 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, bringing the local total to 2,615. They say 2,450 people locally have recovered.
Cases increased from 2,613 on Thursday September 17th to 2,615 on Friday September 18th and 82 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.
The Health Unit says one case is a close contact of a confirmed case and one case is still under investigation.
There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Friday and the local death toll stands at 76.
As of Friday, the Health Unit lists 2 people as hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex, and 2 hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Retirement Home Outbreaks
The Health Unit lists three retirement homes under outbreak:
- Dolce Vita (Windsor) has 2 staff cases and 4 resident cases
- New Beginnings (Leamington) has 7 staff cases and 21 resident cases
- Rosewood Erie Glen (Leamington) has 1 staff case
Workplace Outbreaks
The Health Unit says there are no workplace outbreaks as of today.
A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
Weekly Epidemiological Summary
Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says Windsor-Essex continues to see low cases overall; the primary source of exposure continues to be close contact with confirmed cases; hospitalizations have declined and ICU occupancy is low; day-over-day doubling time in Windsor-Essex is better compared to the province and nationally; and the current rate of transmission (R0) is 0.31 indicating a decrease in transmission in Windsor-Essex.
