Brentwood is looking to form a new Board of Directors.

It has been five months since Mark Walton took over as supervisor, and his attention is now looking towards the formation of the new Board.

When a Supervisor comes into an organization, they typically assume the Board of directors’ role until a new Board is put in place.

The home is seeking 16 new members, comprising four independent community members and 12 alumni members.

“Having an outside voice will be important to this board table. With health care transformation happening and Ontario Health Teams developing, I want to make sure Brentwood is connected in the community in a meaningful way; one of those ways is through the Board,” said Walton.

“It is also critical to have outside voices. Sometimes as insiders, we can’t see the areas where we need to grow or the opportunities that are out there. Our independent board members will have the lens of the communities we serve. This is in addition to the valuable perspectives and experiences that the alumni members will bring to the discussions”.

The selection of board members will be facilitated by an outside firm to bring an independent and unbiased view of the applications.

Board members will be chosen based on a skill matrix relevant to the needs of the Brentwood Organization. The lived experience will also be a key consideration for alumni board members.

While the repopulation of the Board is a big step to the revitalization of Brentwood, other essential projects that are also underway, includes a new five-year strategic plan, updated Mission, Vision, and Values, rebranding to reflect a more modern look, a review of best practices and updated complaints and concerns processes.

“From my lens, Brentwood is well on its way to a bright future. The next part of that journey is putting in place a new Board that will help guide Brentwood through its revitalization journey,” said Walton.
