The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 2 new cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday, bringing the local total to 2,416. They say 2,250 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 2,414 on Friday August 14th to 2,416 on Saturday August 15th and 86 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.

The Health Unit says one case is travel related and one case is a close contact of a confirmed case.

There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Saturday and the local death toll stands at 71.

As of Saturday, the Health Unit lists 4 people as hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex, but 5 hospitalizations are listed on Windsor Regional Hospital’s website.

Two retirement homes remain under outbreak: Shoreview at Riverside (Windsor), and New Beginnings (Leamington).

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Friday, the Health Unit listed the following workplaces under outbreak:

  • 4 farms (2 in Kingsville and 2 in Leamington)
  • 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Windsor)

As of Saturday, the Health Unit says the following workplaces are under outbreak (1 less compared to yesterday):

  • 3 farms (1 in Kingsville and 2 in Leamington)
  • 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Windsor)

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
