Hospital Location Appeal Denied, Planning Moves Forward

Planning for a new hospital for Windsor and Essex County is moving forward after the Divisional Court released a decision dismissing the request to appeal a Local Planning Appeal Tribunal decision by the group Citizens for an accountable Megahospital Planning process.
It was announced back in July 2015 that the hospital will be built on a sixty acre property at the southeast corner of County Road 42 and the 9th Concession.
Since then, several appears have been launched by the group the group Citizens for an accountable Megahospital Planning process.
The Local Planning Appeal Tribunal decision released in December 2019 upheld Windsor City Council’s decision to approve the rezoning of the selected site for the new regional acute care hospital and the official plan amendment for the surrounding area.
After the LPAT decision, a Motion for Leave to Appeal the LPAT decision was filed in Divisional Court.
Justice Gregory Verbeem has dismissed the Motion for Leave to Appeal and ordered legal costs in favour of the City of Windsor and Windsor Regional Hospital.
The steering committee overseeing the project has developed a detailed community engagement plan for Stage 2 of the planning process that includes significant opportunity for all residents to have a voice and participate in the next step of the process.
